Is the world a superior spot because of globalization - Essay Example before were viewed as inner, are currently straightforwardly and all the more effectively being meddled at by global associations, advocating such activities with values that are built up all inclusive, for instance, human rights (Boyle; Keck and Sikkink). Having the option to appreciate things that we don’t appreciate before could quickly disclose to us that in reality, globalization has improved the world a spot to live in. Indeed to Wolf, globalization has diminished disparity between and inside countries. Things being what they are, if globalization has made it workable for all countries to appreciate the assets every one has; if globalization has made it feasible for people groups of various societies to join so as to modify a medicinally perilous conviction; in the event that globalization has allowed immature countries the chance to be grown; at that point, what is there to restrict? As Rodrik has brought up, let us be cautious in bouncing to such end, on the grounds that to his view, globalization has in certainty debilitated work and has been hastily subverting country states. Following Rodrik’s investigation, I, as well, am suspicious that globalization is improving our reality a spot to live in. What made me state this, I will contend underneath. The primary element or all the more unequivocally, the very rationale of globalization is to change the world market. Consequently the main impetus of globalization isn't homogenization, neither intermingling, in the positive sense, yet the unhindered development of capital. It is ideal to envision that globalization will join the world towards the advancement of humankind. Lamentably, imagining that way would be tricking ourselves, in light of the fact that the reality remains that globalization is capitalism’s monetary system. Then again, it would likewise be off base to deny that globalization has opened up monetary chances and advancement to poor nations. Models of which are China and India, which economy has drastically improved from impoverishment. A lot more nations in Asia are additionally profited with quick financial development. Having the

Water uncertainty is all permeant in South Asiatic part, seeable in battles and tensenesss break excursion inside and across states. In this way, the interest to fuse H2O security as a cardinal constituent of human security is significant. 24. Water Availability and A ; Consumption. Planet is secured to a great extent by H2O yet just 3 % of it is new H2O and out of which 2 % is solidified in ice tops and ice sheets. Simple 1 % is in signifier of lakes, pools, streams, waterways, swamps, marshesand lowlands is promptly accessible for human ingestion. By 2030 it is accepted that interest for H2O will be 40 % more than its present interest and 50 % higher in most rapidlydeveloping states that incorporate India and China[ 2 ].As per the estimations, by 2030 universe populace is anticipated to make 7.5 billion ( low estimation ) and 9 billion ( medium estimation ) by 2050 from the present level of 6.7 billion people. The lion's share of the populace expansion will be in states previously sing H2O deficiencies. The ever spread trip spread between request ( in footings of turning populace and A ; monetary framework ) and gracefully ( in footings of handiness ) will possibly do H2O a significant issue in the coming decennaries exceptionally in moronically populated states. 25. Association Ministry of H2O assets has assessed the states H2O requests to be around 1093 BCM for the twelvemonth 2025 and 1447 BCM for the twelvemonth 2050. With sticking populace growthof 1.4 billion by 2050, the whole accessible H2O assets would barely fit the whole H2O requests of the state. In 1951 the one-year per capita handiness of H2O was 5177m, which decreased to 1342m by 2000. The realities show that India is required to go ‘water focused on ‘ by 2025 and ‘water scant ‘ by 2050. Fitting to the UNEP. ‘water accentuation ‘ happens when interest for H2O surpasses the accessible aggregate during a specific period or when hapless quality limits its utilization. Water accentuation causes impedance of new H2O assets in footings of value and measure. An express whose sustainable new H2O handiness on a one-year per capita balance, surpasses around 1700 centimeter will suffer simply infrequent or nearby H2O work. Beneath this edge states being to see intermittent or normal H2O accentuation. At the point when new H2O handiness falls underneath 1000cm per individual per twelvemonth, states experience constant H2O scarceness, in which the lack of H2O Begins to bridle financial turn of events, human wellbeing and great being. At the point when inexhaustible new H2O supplies fall beneath 500 centimeters for every person, states experience total scarceness. 24. Six billion individuals of planet Earth use around 30 % of the universe ‘s whole open inexhaustible flexibly of H2O. By 2025, that worth may make 70 % . However at present one million a huge number of individuals need fundamental H2O administrations and 1000000s bite the dust every twelvemonth from H2O related maladies. Some accept that new H2O will be basic confining asset for some parts in the nearby in the future. Around one tierce of te universe ‘s populace lies in states that are sing H2O accentuation. Projections recommend that most Asiatic states will hold horrendous H2O occupations by the twelvemonth 2025. 25. Water Security. Water security is a slippery develop, yet accord is get bringing down to rise known to mankind network with respect to its measurements, its parametric amounts, and the best assaults for its achievement. The Second World Water Forum Ministerial Declaration ( 2000 ) , embraced that H2O security infers the devotees: †Human course to sheltered and minimal effort H2O for health and prosperity. Affirmation of monetary and political stableness. Security of human populaces from the perils of water-related dangers. Fair and purposeful sharing of H2O assets. Complete and simply evaluating of the asset. Maintainability of biological systems at all pieces of the hydrologic rhythm.Dimensions of Water Security26. The issue of H2O security has a few measurements, for example, viing uses, degradation of value and scarceness. World Bank characterizes it as a blend of expanded productiveness and decreased destructivity of H2O. In the days of old, the opposition for H2O has activated cultural tensenesss and battles between water-use segments and states as the household requests for H2O has constrained authoritiess to be after and placed in sweeping H2O endeavors, for example, the River-Linking Project by India and Three Gorges undertaking by China. The H2O profile of the part with complex mutualities suggests that inner kineticss inside a state may now logically show itself in a between State measurement. 27. Water is ostensibly one of humankind ‘s most significant assets and that is the reason every single antediluvian civilisation developed along waterways be it the Indus or the Nile. It has gone under expanded interest because of quick populace and financial developing and may go an immutable start of battles both inside the states each piece great as between states. South Asia is an arranged example review of H2O both as a start of participation and each piece great as battle. The worry for H2O is additionally squeezing in the South Asiatic terrain staying of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Afghanistan and Nepal. The China factor and effect of its H2O strategies has added another measurement to the activity. 28. Water scarceness is a genuine and turning work all through the universe, and the twin power per unit regions of ‘Population Growth ‘ and ‘Climate Change ‘ will just raise this activity. The United Nations evaluates that â€Å" the figure of individuals populating in water-focused on states will increment from around 700 million today to in excess of 3 billion by 2035[ 3 ]. The immature universe totally will be home to 90 % of the 3 billion individuals expected to be added to the planetary populace by 2025. 29. It is evaluated that by 2025, over portion of the universe ‘s tenants will be straight influenced by H2O scarceness. A large portion of them will populate in either China or India. China has course to around 7 % penny of the universe ‘s H2O assets, however is spot to around 20 % of the planetary populace, while India has around 4 % of H2O assets with just a fairly littler public[ 4 ]. The two states, alongside eight other Asiatic states and 47 % of the universe ‘s individuals, are, all things considered, subject to the Tibetan Plateau for H2O. Any H2O strategies for the part consequently will hold a global effect. 30. Estimated by customary indexs, H2O accentuation, which happens when the interest for H2O surpasses the accessible whole during a specific period or when hapless quality limits its utilization, is expanding rapidly, especially in creating states like India and China. Fitting to the 2006 Human Development Report[ 5 ], around 700 million individuals in 43 states live beneath the water-stress edge of 1,700 three-dimensional meters per person. By 2025, this figure will make 3 billion, as H2O accentuation strengthens in China, India, and South Asia.Factors Determining Water Security31. The graduated table of the ever-present social test of achieving and drawing out H2O security is controlled by numerous components, of which three stick out. First there is the hydrologic condition, the outright level of H2O asset handiness, its between and intra-yearly changeability and its spacial appropriation, which is a characteristic estate that a general public acquires. Second, there is the finan cial condition, the development of the monetary framework and the conduct of its histrions, which will rei⠬‚ect common and social estates and arrangement picks. Third, there will be adjustments in the great beyond condition, with extensive and turning grounds that clime change will be a significant segment. These elements will play of import works in finding the foundations and the sorts and graduated tables of base expected to achieve H2O security. The Hydrologic Environment32. Generally low precipitation inconstancy, with downpour appropriated all through the twelvemonth and Perennial River i⠬‚ows continued by groundwater base i⠬‚ows, results in hydrology that is similarly â€Å" simple † to pull off. Accomplishing an essential level of H2O security is direct and requires moderately low degrees of achievement and contributing ( mostly in light of the fact that H2O is sufiâ ¬?cient, boundless and nearly trustworthy ) . â€Å" Difiâ ¬?cult † hydrologies are those of total H2O scarceness ( for example comeuppances ) and, at the other extraordinary, low-lying lands where there is awful i⠬‚ood peril. Much more difiâ ¬?cult is the place precipitation is extraordinarily occasional or where there is high between yearly clime fluctuation. With logically â€Å" difiâ ¬?cult † hydrology, the level of institutional reiâ ¬?nement and base contributing expected to achieve essential H2O security turns out to be signiiâ ¬?cantly more prominent. Not coincidently, the vast majority of the universe ‘s hapless face difiâ ¬?cult hydrologies. 33. An estate of trans-limit Waterss, hydrologic and political or a â€Å" trans-bo

Students’ Guide to Event Studies and How to Use Them

Students’ Guide to Event Studies and How to Use Them in Dissertations Event studies are methods used to measure the impact of a particular event or a series of events on the market value of a stock or company. The concept behind this is to try to understand whether sudden and abnormal stock returns can be attributed to market information pertaining to an event. Often events such as mergers and acquisitions, new product launches, expansion into new markets, earnings announcements and public offerings can have a major impact on the stock price as well as the valuation of a firm. Various software programmes can be used to measure this impact, but most often event studies are conducted in Excel and Stata. Students will benefit from learning the methodology of event studies as it will open a new area of possibilities for conducting research, writing a dissertation or developing a proposal. In this guide, we will look at event studies and try to establish their uses in finance dissertations. Event study was invented by Eugene Fama and his team in 1969. Event studies can have a wide magnitude, simply because events can themselves be of different types. For instance, the announcement of acquiring a company which has solid fundamentals can lead to value creation for a firm. On the other hand, regulatory shocks can lead to value erosion if they have a direct bearing on the operations of an organisation. Stock markets can react differently to different events, and hence it is important to ascertain whether an event will have a positive or a negative impact on a company. The study of these events can help investors generate abnormal returns. However, it is important to isolate the effects of particular events on stock from other factors that may influence prices. For this reason, benchmarks for normal returns are used in event studies, and these normal returns are often estimated with an assumption that financial markets should be efficient. So, event studies are based on the efficient market hypothesis. According to the theory, in an efficient capital market, all the new and relevant information is immediately reflected in the respective asset prices. Although this theory is not universally applicable, there are many instances in which it holds true. An event study implies a step by step analysis of the impact that a particular announcement has on a company’s valuation. In normal conditions, without the influence of the analysed event, it is assumed that expected returns on a stock would be determined by the risk-free rate, systematic risk of the stock and risk premium required by investors. These conditions are measured by the capital asset pricing model (CAPM). There can primarily be three types of announcements which can constitute event studies. These include corporate announcements, macroeconomic announcements, as well as regulatory events. As the name suggests, corporate announcements could include bankruptcies, asset sales, MAs, credit rating downgrades, earnings announcements and announcements of dividends. These events usually have a major impact on the stock prices simply because they are directly interlinked with the company. On the other hand, macroeconomic announcements can include central bank announcements of changes in interest rates, an announcement of inflation projections and economic growth projections. Even though macroeconomic events to have systemic effects and influence the whole equity market, some companies may be more sensitive to particular macroeconomic news than others, and for this reason, the event study methodology can be implemented. Finally, regulatory announcements such as policy changes and new laws announ cement can also impact the stock prices of companies, and therefore can be measured using the method of event studies. A critical issue in event studies is choosing the right event window during which the analysed announcements are assumed to produce the strongest effect on share prices. According to the efficient market hypothesis, announcements instantaneously affect and adjust stock prices. Hence, even within event windows, no statistically significant abnormal returns would be expected. However, in reality, there could be rumours before official announcements and some investors may act on such rumours. Moreover, investors may react at different times due to differences in speed of information processing and reaction. In order to account for all these factors, event windows usually capture a short period before the announcement to account for rumours and an asymmetrical period after the announcement. It is important to note that estimating abnormal returns using the event study method for a single company does not add much value because there is no way to check if these abnormal returns are not attained by accident. In order to make event studies stronger and statistically meaningful, a large number of similar or related cases are analysed. Then, abnormal returns are cumulated and averages are calculated. The presence of a high number of observations allows for conducting tests of significance of the estimated abnormal returns. T-statistic is often used to evaluate whether the calculated abnormal returns are on average different from zero. So, researchers that use event studies are concerned not only with the positive or negative effects of specific events but also with the generalisation of the results and measuring the statistical significance of abnormal returns. To sum up, an event study is a broad field of research which can be used to measure the impact of major announcements on the valuation of a firm and its share price. It has a wide range of applications for analysts as well as students who are looking to prepare a dissertation in the field of finance.

The Marketing Mix Essay - 275 Words

The Marketing Mix (Essay Sample) Content: The Marketing Mix-PriceName:Institution:The Marketing Mix-PriceCreating product prices is a difficult choice for a company. Available alternatives include offering the product free of charge, pricing based on input costs plus a profit margin, or premium pricing based on consumers propensity to spend. The model a company chooses will depend on its brand image, available capital, or its growth prospects (Narayandas, 2005). Therefore, the chosen model should reflect how a company implements its business strategy to attain financial objectives. The model will take into consideration characteristics of the market and consumers, models of competitors, and goals of the company with respect to the volume it wants to drive in the long-term.Pricing ModelsCanned VegetablesThe most appropriate pricing model for canned vegetables is a cost-based model. This model uses the unit cost of production, which includes direct and indirect costs when setting price. The company will add a p rofit margin that is a percentage of the total cost of production to the final price (Narayandas, 2005). Characteristics of cost-based pricing include:It is easy to adjust price when costs increase. It is ideal for those products that have a specified quantity of raw materials. It suits manufacturer who can scale production relative to the products demand. It does not consider competitor pricing models, as long as it covers unit costs. It ignores the effect of pricing on the product demand. It does not give an incentive to improve efficiency.Companies that produce canned vegetables incorporate various ingredients to make the food nutritious. When pricing, first they will add the cost of inputs then include a profit margin to come up with the final price. This means that many companies within the same industry may have different prices for the same product if the cost of inputs is different (Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, 1999). Aspirin Aspirin is a drug people consume when they are sick and the most appropriate model is value based pricing. Its manufacturers use different ingredients in varying combinations during production. Therefore, they will set a price depending on the value consumers attach to the product (Anand, Khanna, 2000). The company does not rely on prices of competitors since people will consume this drug based on its effectiveness to cure maladies. The demand for the product is pegged on the number of sick people meaning that if the company were to add more ingredients to the drug to make it more useful and charge more, people would still buy it. Gale and Swire (2006) say that the characteristics of value based pricing include the following:Has ability to maximize revenue given that the model is based on how much customers are willing to pay for the value they will pull from the product. It focuses the product on customer expectations. It ignores pricing of competitors. It is suitable where a company can grade its brand value relative to competitor brands. It does not rely on cost of production.A company using value-based pricing will charge customers based on the perceived value of the product. The company will produce similar categories of product with different ingredients and charge each group a different price (PWC, 2014). Similarities between Cost-Based and Value-Based ModelsHinterhuber (2004) says that both methods use other attributes besides product demand when setting price. Cost based model uses unit cost of production while value based model uses the perceived value to determine the price. Both models focus on a profit margin though cost based model has a lower margin than value based model. This is because the cost-based model considers the market floor and ceiling when determining the right price while value based method looks at how much clients are willing to pay for its product. Both methods allow the company to cluster clients and charge them differently depending on what they consume. This is be cause the price depends on the cost of production or the intrinsic value of the productDifferencesSimon and Butscher (2001) give the differences in the two models as follows:Focus: Cost-based pricing looks at how much profit the company wants to make while value based pricing takes into consideration the value clients will get after consuming the product. Price: With cost-based pricing, market conditions determine the price a company will charge for its products while in value based model, the company looks at consumers ability to pay for the product. Benefits: Cost-based pricing transfer benefits to consume...

The ASIC Key

Question: Write an essay on The ASIC key. Answer: To register a company, the person who planned for such registration needs to apply to the ASIC. The ASIC key is an important aspect in the formation of the business. The ASIC key is one unique number that is used in the ASIC Connect, helping the new registers of the business to protect their business information (Rahman 2013). The key makes and gives the assurance to the new business holders that only they will have an access to the business information, and also only other authorized person or members can get the access to the business. The ASIC mentioned under the section 117 of the corporation act. The primary step is to register concerning the section. The following step that comes after the registration then the type of company has to be determined as mentioned under the section 112 of the act. Here, we will form a Company of Proprietary Limited (asic.gov.au 2016). Company type: Proprietary Limited Company (as mentioned under Sec 112 of the Act). The type of the company is ten referred with the sec 601W of the corporation act: The mentioned section applies for the registered body subjecting to the subclause (2). If the registrable body is same as the Australian registrable body, then the mentioned section do not apply concerning the place of the business carried out but is done concerning the origin of the business or the place of origin. Next under the clause nine under the section, this defines that other than the ADI body of Australia, it is the duty of the company to affix the name in the painted form. The company also must paint the name in such manner which is visible clearly, and the name must be put in front of all the business premises and also in front of the registered office. So, The name of the corporating body must be clear along with the place of the origin which is also compulsory for the display in front. If the company is the holder of the limited or the Proprietary company, then it is mandatory for the members to use such suffix in the name or even at least the abbreviation like the Ltd or Pty respectively. The mention of section 112 of the Act is mandatory for understanding the type of company and also the liability they hold under any pattern of the corporation (Human et al. 2015). Next step is the vital step for the propitiatory business set up. In this context, the reference from section 117(2) of the Act is mandatory. The primary step in the registration includes that the company must indicate the liability of every member in the within the name of the business setup: As, for this situation to set up a proprietary limited company, the suffix usage is an essential step included while the registration done. Choosing a name of the company in such a way so that it is not registered with the same name in any ongoing business: The name one chooses for the corporation must be such that it has a chance to get approved from ASIC since sometimes the ASIC rejects the approval when found that the name has some similarity with some ongoing business firm. The ASIC will also reject the registration if they find that the suggested name is offensive or carries the illegal motive. Upon such situations, the there are some suggestive moves from the ASIC to bring necessary amendments. There is an alternative procedure available to name the company using the ACN or ABN, which means the Australia Company Number or the Australian Business Numbers respectively (australia.gov.au 2016). While the name choosing of the corporation gets over, then the next step that comes is the valid consent from the members. Under the act of the corporation, the valid consent from the members of the company is an important step during the time of registration. The following members are liable to produce their valid consent: The director(s) of the company expected to be a person of more than 18 years of age. Secretary of the company, who, like the director of the company is also expected to be a member with age of more than 18 years. Member(s) of the company, like the other members, must have attained the age of minimum 18 years old. It is important to note that under the propitiatory form of the company it is not mandatory to have a post of secretary; the presence of the directors must have at least one with the holder of Australian Citizenship. After attaining the consent from the members of the acting corporation, then follows the step of registration of the corporation, where certain procedures are followed: Details of the applicant: His name: Name of Company: His designation: Address (personal as well as official): Telephone (residential, official as well as availability after the office hours): Facsimile: All details for the proposed company: Suggestive names of the company(sequence must follow the preference concern): Suffix name: State of incorporation: Address of the registered office: Address of the business: Acting Superannuation Trustee: Seal(whether needed or not): Presentation of the company: Kit from Bank: Name to be verified whether existing or violating any norms: Defining role of the applicant(whether to work as registered agent or with regards to the ASIC requirement): Shareholder: Type of shareholder: Name: ABN or ACN: Address: Personal details: Professional details comprising of: Position in company: Numeric value of the shares: Form of Share (trustee or beneficially owned) Advise on further issuing of the shares: The mentioned pattern will follow for all the business shareholders in the company by the number of shareholder 1 and so on. Apart from that, the registration form will comprise of: Additional notes: Fees: $738 GST. Mode of payment: Lastly, accepting the terms and conditions to fulfil the registration. The company needs to set up a constitution as under section 134, which includes the governing procedures and also the pattern of the internal management (legislation.gov.au 2016). The constitution comprises the rules mentioned under the replaceable rules concerning sec 135 of the Act. Although the proprietary business does not need to do not need to set up the constitution, it is advisable for the entire registered corporation to set up a corporation so that it is easy to keep the company record. The clause also includes the necessity of the company preference for issuing the shares, special resolution approval which includes the repayment of the capital, profit participation, and the surplus assets, voting rights and cumulative dividends. Constitutions are mainly based on the redeemable share preference at the time of such occurrence of the events or with the option of the shareholders (Anderson et al. 2015). The formation of the legislative act comes with the necessity of the occurrence so that there are some specified that can be followed while any procedures carried out. In the corporation law, the act so mentioned explains about the liability or the power. Some sections are amended due to the controversy. The explanation can be carried further: Section 124: this section defines about the legal capacity of any corporating head with the vested powers to carry on with some activities. The section got a critical role in the formation of the business (Bakan 2012). It is paramount for the members acting since they got the power to issue shares or cancel shares or even issue the debentures. Some situation requires the company to grant some opinion for security interest option. The legal authority provides the company to act in concern with the situation, provided that it is mandatory that they maintain the good faith and belief within the acting members (abr.gov.au 2016). Sec 129(1): the constitution of the company along with the replaceable rules are compiled together since it is mandatory for the company to maintain a constitution even though that is not mandatory as in the case of the proprietary form of business. The combining of the replaceable rules with the actual constitutions helps the corporation to make essential changes or amendments during the time of absolute necessity (austlii.edu.au 2016). Section 588(M) (3): the clause arises some necessity to the act after the introduction of this section. Here there is an explanation of the creditor who is not liable to get the damage in means of compensation from the directors of the company. The creditors are also known as the investors of the company; hence, they are liable to get the compensation to the loss occurred to them due to the insolvency of the company as mentioned under the subdivision B concerning the section of the act, and the amount is equal to the amount of loss occurred (Dobson 2014). Also, the liquidator of the company is also liable for the compensation provided that the director has been proved for his insolvency (Wright 2014). So, all the three sections mentioned here hold an important part in the carrying out of the business. References: Abr.gov.au. 2016. For Business, Super funds Charities | Australian Business Register. Financial Management Principles Cash Balance

Question: Describe about the Financial Management Principles for Cash Balance. Answer: 1:- From the case study and financial statements, it can be stated that Jackson Limited has managed to generate profits for the last eight months. However, the company could not repay the loan on time. There are several issues, for which the company has requested to extend the term loan period. From the monthly income statement for the last eight months, it has been observed that the company could not maintain the net profit margin stable. It has decreased significantly over the period. Such fall in profit margin has been caused due to fall in sales for the last three month. From March2013 to May,2013, the actual sales figures were lesser than the budgeted sales (Channon and Jalland 2016). The fall in sales volume, as reported by the company, has happened due to the delay in the shipments. It could not complete the orders on time as some vital components arrived very lately. Therefore, the company could not generate the anticipated sales volume and accumulate enough cash balance. Moreover, it has also suffered from inadequate cash balance due to dividend payment on March2013 (Kaplan and Atkinson 2015). Hence, it can be concluded from the above discussions, that though the company has earned profit over the due period, it has failed to generate the budgeted sales volume due to operational hazards. It has caused a temporary shortfall in cash balance, for which the company could not repay the loan timely. The main sources and uses of funds for Jackson Limited is described in the following table:- Particulars Details Sources of Funds Sales Operation Loan from Bank Interest on cash Balance Uses of Funds Purchase of Raw Material Operating Expenses Tax Payment Interest on Loan Dividend Payment 2:- The company requires the new loan of $2.4 million to purchase new equipment for operational purpose. As the president of the company had mentioned, the company had not bought any new equipment for the last few year due to recession. Moreover, some of the components of the older equipments have worn out, which may cause interruption in production. The company has always focused on innovative designs to satisfy its customers. It has been one of the key strengths of the company, which has helped it to survive in the recession period successfully (Bryson 2012). In such scenario, if the company does not upgrade its machinery and equipments accordingly, it cannot maintain its goodwill in the market. Moreover, as mentioned earlier, due to poor conditions of the equipment, it may face disruptions in operation (Rausand 2013). In the current financial year, it has already suffered such disruption due to delay in shipments, which has caused fall in sales volumes. Now, if it again faces such problems, then it will be unable to recoup the losses. The quality of the end products may also hamper for the poor condition of the equipment and lead to customer dissatisfaction. Therefore, it can be suggested that the requirement of the additional borrowing can be considered as urgent. 3:- Cash Budget:- Partculars June'13 July'13 August'13 September'13 Cash Flow from Operating Activities Payment from Customers 3,744 12,681 7,374 4,501 Payment to Suppliers (5,969) (5,200) (5,200) (5,200) Payment for Operating Expenses (1,838) (1,838) (1,838) (1,838) Income Tax Payment (375) (375) Net Cash Inflow/(Outflow) from Operating Activities -4438 5643 336 -2912 Cash Flow from Investing Activities Purchase of New Equipment -2400 Net Cash Inflow/(Outflow) from Operating Activities 0 -2400 0 0 Cash Flow from Financing Activities Loan from bank 2400 Interest on Loan -25 -25 -37 -37 Interest Income 8 1 10 11 Repayment of Loan -7400 Dividend Paid -1200 Net Cash Inflow/(Outflow) from Operating Activities -17 2376 -27 -8626 Total Cash Inflow/(Outflow) -4455 5619 309 -11538 Add: Opening Cash Balance 4,994 539 6,158 6,468 Closing Cash Balance 539 6,158 6,468 (5,071) Income Statement:- Particulars June'13 July'13 Aug '13 Sep'13 TOTAL Net Sales 12,681 7,374 7,201 7,394 34,650 Less: COGS 9,765 5,381 5,381 5,381 25,909 Gross Profit 2,916 1,993 1,820 2,013 8,741 Operating expenses 750 750 750 750 3,000 Depreciation and amortization 120 120 130 130 500 Interest expense 25 25 37 37 124 Interest income 8 1 10 11 30 Profit (loss) before tax 2,013 1,097 892 1,085 5,086 Income taxes 684 373 303 369 1,729 Net income 1,328 724 589 716 3,357 Dividends 1200 1,200 Balance Sheet:- June'13 July'13 Aug'13 Sep'13 Cash 539 6,158 6,468 Accounts receivable 12,681 7,374 7,201 7,394 Inventory 7,317 7,728 5,541 8,822 Current assets 20,537 21,260 19,209 16,216 Gross PPE 45,500 47,900 47,900 47,900 Accumulated depreciation 30,488 30,608 30,738 30,868 Net PPE 15,012 17,292 17,162 17,032 Tax Refundable 6 Prepaid expenses 54 54 54 54 Total assets 35,603 38,606 36,425 33,308 Accounts payable 5,200 5,200 5,200 5,200 Bank Overdraft 5,071 Notes payable, bank 5,000 7,400 7,400 Accrued taxes 309 373 303 Other accrued expenses 1,142 1,142 1,142 1,142 Customer advance payments 2,700 2,700 0 0 Current liabilities 14,351 16,815 14,045 11,413 Shareholders' equity 21,251 21,791 22,380 21,896 Total liabilities and equity 35,603 38,606 36,425 33,308 4:- The projected income statement for the period from June,2013 to September,2013 exhibits quite satisfactory outcomes. The company is expected to earn high amount of profit in this period. However, from the cash budget for the same period, it can be stated that the company will not be able to repay the loan. The cash budget forecasts that though company will have adequate amount of opening cash balance on September, it cannot generate positive cash flow from operating activities due to the advance payment adjustment from customer. Hence, if the company repays the loan, the total cash balance will become negative and the company has to take short term loan again for its operational activities (Brigham and Ehrhardt 2013). The main risk, which is associated with the proposed loan, is the shortfall of cash balance. The company can reduce the risk level, if it negotiates with its suppliers to extend the credit period of 30 days to 60 days and does not pay the dividend on the month September. 5:- The forecasts, made by the president, are based on sales volume and future cash outlays in form of raw material purchase and operating expenses. It can vary with the actual figures if any of these factors differs from the assumptions (McDONALD 2016). The company expects that the sales volume will rise quite significantly due to faster economic development. It has assumed such future developments according the recent sales figures of big three companies in this sector. The factors, which has helped these three companies to improve the sales, may not be effective for small companies, like Jackson Limited. Therefore, the company may not enjoy such significant sales growth in the coming four months (McDonald 2013). The company expects to reduce the raw material cost and maintain the same amount for all the four months. It should be noted that if the productivity increases, then the raw material consumption would increase subsequently (DRURY 2013). Moreover, if the industry will face a economi development, then raw material price also rise according to its increasing demand. In both the cases, the raw material cost cannot be reduced and maintained at same level for the period of 4 months. The operating expenses are mostly variable expenses, which changes as per production and sales volume. Hence, unlike the assumption of the company, it will not remain same for the specified period, when the production and sales volume both will increase at high rate. Therefore, it can be stated that the assumptions, made for future projection, are not quite satisfactory and logical. There is high risk that the actual figures may differ greatly with the forecast and the company may not achieve its target as per the anticipation (Fleischmann et al. 2015). Moreover, the main issue of the company is the shortage of cash balance, which relies greatly on the sales figures. The sensitivity analysis, shown below, describes how the cash balance would vary according to the change in sales forecast:- Sensitivity Analysis:- Particulars Actual Option 1 Option 2 Option 3 Option 4 Rise by 10% Rise by 15% Fall by 5% Fall by 10% Actual Sales for 8 months 44,014 44,014 44,014 44,014 44,014 Projected Sales for 4 months 34,650 38115 39848 32918 31185 Total Annual Sales 78,664 82,129 83,862 76,932 75,199 Cash Balance on year ending (5,071) (2,340) (974) (6,436) (7,802) It is clear from the above table that the company will be able to pay off the term loan without any interruption in its operations, only if it would be able to increase the sales volume by 15% from the forecasted figures and avoid the dividend payment in the end of September (Hope and Fraser 2013). 6:- From the banks point of view, it can be stated that the current loan should not be extended and the additional loan should not be approved also. The financial forecast statements, given above, exhibit that the company will not be able to save enough cash fund at the end of the fiscal year for repaying both the loans. In such scenario, the bank cannot take such huge risk (Bluhm et al. 2016). As mentioned in the case study, Jackson Limited has performed at the adverse conditions quite well in past. The pro-forma income statement indicates that it will continue to earn profit in the near future also. Hence, the bank can consider it for loan (Bessis and O'Kelly 2015). In that case, it can reduce the risk factors by providing the loan against the accounts receivable balances or the finished goods inventories (Grubel 2014). If the company will not be able to pay the loan on time, then the bank can ensure the payment on encashment of accounts receivable or by selling the finished inventory balances (Brealey et al. 2012). 7:- The repurchase of common outstanding stocks can be very helpful for the companies, which are very much active in the stock markets. The company can reduce the quantity of outstanding shares and thus, it will be able to increase the earning per share (Evgeniou et al. 2016). The company may pay lesser amount for dividends as the dividend per share will rise due to lower numbers of shares. Thus due to increase in earnings per shares and dividend per shares, the stock price of the company uses to get increase quite significantly (Horngren et al. 2013). It is not sure that Jackson Limited is active in share markets or not. If it would intend to rise its stock prices in the market, then the decision of share buy-back is surely a good decision. However, nothing is mentioned in the case study about such intention. Rather, for such repurchasing the company had to take loan from bank. It has led the company to generate higher debt ratio (Andriosopoulos et al. 2013). Moreover, the companies use to repurchase its shares out of its excess cash funds. Jackson Limited did not have enough cash balance when it had re-purchased its own shares (Hofstede 2012). Therefore, the decision of share buy-back cannot be considered as fruitful or effective for the company. 8:- The company should not pay dividends at the end of September,2013, as it is quite sure that the company will face shortage of cash in that particular month. The main aim of the company should be the loan repayment only. It should save cash funds as much as possible and for that reason, it should avoid any cash outflows, which can be paid in the following year (Lorange 2013). Dividends payment is not fixed expenses. It depends on the financial situation and cash balances of the company. Jackson Limited has already paid interim dividend on March,2013. Therefore, if it will pay dividends in the next fiscal year from the total profit of the current year, there will be no problem at all (Patton et al. 2015). The process of change is necessary for growth Essay Example For Students

The process of change is necessary for growth Essay The process of change is necessary for growth as throughout the development something new will be learnt that will prepare us for the future; whether the change is for the better or worse it is something that everyone will go through. I strongly agree with the statement and it is supported with the novel The Pearl written by John Steinbeck, and the prose Sky High by Hannah Roberts. They both reflect the concept clearly and distinctly through interesting and explorative manners, engaging the reader with various techniques that allows them to adapt and compare their own experiences with the personas journey of changing self. We will write a custom essay on The process of change is necessary for growth specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now In the beginning of both texts, the main characters have tolerant attitudes and are both content with the current life styles that they live in. In The Pearl, the main character, Kino, starts off happy just living with basic requirements on the quiet shore of La Paz. Imagery is used to depict this and is evident in the quote, Kino heard the little splash of morning waves on the beach. It was very good Kino closed his eyes again to listen to his music. This shows how Kino feels towards his current life, which is content and relaxed, before his journey of changing self. Similarly, in Sky High, the persona starts off with a bubbly and bright personality. The text begins by warmly describing the young personas interpretation of her beloved the washing line. A technique that helps the persona do so is the use of personification. An example of this is, silver skeletal arms throwing long summer shadows on the lawn. The effect of this gives the reader the impression that the washing line and the persona both have a free spirits. It also describes the personas personality before she evolves into what is and older and more complicated version of herself. Throughout both texts, the personality and perspective of the main characters change due to specific reasons. In the novel, Kinos personality and perspective starts off content and kind-hearted. However, he then encounters a magnificent pearl which then changes his personality to a more greedy and sinister self. Juana, who is Kinos wife, also changes. At first, her character had a submissive attitude but throughout the story her character changes and has developed a sense of judgement. A technique used to show this is personification. This is evident throughout the story as Juana refers to the pearl as evil, a sin that will destroy us all. Conversely, the prose continues to describe the warm atmosphere that is present when the persona was young. During Sky High, the persona uses alliteration to create imagery and also paint a picture into the readers mind. This is evident in the sentence, the garden next door-dry and dusty. The use of this technique also creates rhythm which makes the prose more enjoyable to read. Towards the end of both texts, process of change for both characters is completed. Kino, who started off content and kind-hearted has progressively changed into greed and evil. But on his course of change, he has lost a house, a boat and lastly his son. From the lost of his only son he has awaken himself up and his personality has changed back to what it was in the beginning, however, minus a few objects. In the end he banishes the pearl in hope for a new beginning. The same has been done with the persona in Sky High. In the last paragraph, the persona has changed from her young bright self into a more older, dark and complicated version of herself. Since she is now older, her personality and perspectives have changed. She now sees that washing line as aged-warped and now has responsibilities. The sentence that tells us this is there are too many things tying me to the ground. This indicates that in between the time that she was young and old alot has happened and have had a great impact on her life that has lead to what she is now. .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0 , .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0 .postImageUrl , .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0 , .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0:hover , .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0:visited , .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0:active { border:0!important; } .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0:active , .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0 .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4c2a1d5ae0e85a92a4c33e419a4ba5f0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Cause Of Eating Disorders EssayIn conclusion, the process of change is necessary for growth as it will prepare us for what will come in the future. For example, for Kino, his personality has changed various times but in the end he is back where he has started off minus a few objects. . He has learnt through lost and hardship that he should be grateful for what he has for a living and should ask for nothing more. As for the persona in Sky High, she has now changed from young to old and has learnt that everything is still the same; it is just us that change.

Why does Shilling describe the body as unfinished Essay

Why does Shilling describe the body as unfinished - Essay Example The self that we come to recognise is an embodied self, and we use the power that is in that body to interact with the world around us. We have to exercise control on that body, but and in so doing we build up an ordered view of our own identity which we then present for others to see and interact with. This explains how and why our view of the world is necessarily bodily centered. The work of Shilling (1999; Shilling and Mellor, 2007) builds on this groundwork and explores the tensions than can exist between the self and the body. Every human being exists in a physical form, that is to say a body, and yet also at the same time is able to conceive of this body as something separate from, but still related to, the actual self. This ability to distinguish mental and physical attributes creates a number of problems for sociologists, because it is not understood and applied in exactly the same way across different cultures and in different historical times. This paper discusses two paper s in which Shilling discusses the body in relation to society, and theorizes that the body is in a fundamental way unfinished. The main points of the two articles are summarized and the reasons which led to the formulation of the â€Å"unfinished body† hypothesis are explored. Finally this paper outlines some of the implications of this important way of understanding the relationship between body, identity and society. In the past the vocabulary of religion would have been used to portray this kind of issue as a contrast between the body and the spirit or even the soul. In modern times different sociologists such as Parsons (1988) and Lockwood (1964) have debated interrelationships between humans and society and there have been many different ways of theorising the body in a social sense. In Shilling’s view, too much attention has been paid to the mind, and not enough to the body, resulting in a view of the individual and of society which is flawed. Concepts such as ag ency and interaction have been too often defined as if they were somehow â€Å"disembodied.† (Shilling, 1999, p. 544) In 1999 and again in 2007, Shilling addresses these problems, and brings out a series of arguments to show that the individual human body is unfinished, because it requires interaction with others before it can achieve integrity and cohesion. This paper considers the arguments of each paper in turn in the light of other scholars who have examined similar issues and explores what Shillings means by the body being â€Å"unfinished† and why, along with implications of this insight for sociology in the twenty first century. In the earlier paper Shilling turns to the work of Goffman (1983) on the individual’s need for a social self, through which interactions with others are lived: â€Å"People are confronted with the necessity of establishing interpersonal relations with others, in order to construct a social self, and remain vulnerable within this domain: interaction occurs within arenas which expose people, physically and mentally, to others (Shilling, 1999, p. 546). According to Shilling, Goffman improves on earlier work on the self and society by taking more account of corporeal and emotional aspects, and this puts the mental, or cognitive, aspect back into its place alongside these other ones, rather above them in a position of pre-eminence.
